The Inaugural Fusion Sport Goldsprints Invitational

A couple months ago Zack from Mike’s Bikes SF asked me and my team if we would be interested in hosting a Goldsprints competition as fundraiser/benefit party. The benefit part made sense. San Francisco Bicycle Coalition has asked for our support in raising awareness amongst the racing community as well as much needed funds for their advocacy work in the city. We would help raise funds for Mike’s Africa Bike Drive as well. Party, I also get – food, beer, music, etc. My team is good at that. What I wasn’t fully familiar with was the Goldsprints itself. I own a CompuTrainer and I’ve spent time on rollers but I wasn’t really sure the draw. To me indoor trainers are boring and my least favorite workout – if not for power intervals, used as a last resort workout on a rainy day or when you run out of daylight, and of course for warming up for races. Apparently they are very popular back east and in places where you can’t ride all four seasons. Zack asked me to check it out and search for videos on the web to get a sense for these events. Sure enough I found several different videos. Murphy puts on quite a production for his West Coast Goldsprints – he’s the host while the competitors are more like contestants on a game show. My favorite video and the one that has me most psyched about hosting this benefit party is how they handle tiebreakers…

It’s going to be a lot of fun.
