This is by the far the craziest “tubing” I’ve ever seen on a bike. The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the Delta 7 Ascend was “invisible jet” (as in Wonder Woman) – you can see right through it. The top tube, down tube, and seat tube are made of a handcrafted spider web of carbon fiber. Apparently the IsoTruss technology the Utah based company uses results in a frame that is not only lighter but stronger than a cylindrical tubed carbon frame. And their wind tunnel test say its more aerodynamic. While I didn’t actually get to ride it, reports are its super stiff and very responsive. Their Ascend frame is just over 2 lbs. (They also have a mtn bike frame that is under 3lbs)

As you can imagine, these bikes take longer to make than a frame with more traditional tubing and are limited in production. While I was told the frame just as strong and durable if not more than most bikes, it does have a fragile look. Rest assured if you buy one, it comes with a lifetime warranty. Delta 7 bikes are a bit hard to find, but those in SF Bay Area can spot this superhero bike at A Bicycle Odyssey in Sausalito. Or visit: www.delta7sports.com
