Finally a blog.

I've been meaning to do this for weeks. Ok, months. Between the new job and moving things have been a bit hectic. But I finally got this thing going.

Well, it's been a bit crazy figuring out if I could make this race happen. I thought I found a teammate in my friend Johnny Rondash but he had to bow out about a month ago. After that came a couple weeks of "I think found a partner" "I don't have a partner" "I found a partner" "never mind, I don't have a partner." Well finally on Feb 17, with just 40 some days before the event I got an email from a Stefan from Belgium who lost his partner due to a shoulder injury while training asking if I would take on the challenge with him. By that time I had almost completely written off any hope of doing the Cape Epic. It actually took me a a good day to think it over. I had lost a lot of momentum in training, time off from work was becoming a concern, and the quest for qualifying for Kona might need to put on hold. I also knew I would have to pass on another Costa Rica surf trip to Vista Guapa with Ashley and friends.

Then I reminded myself of the opportunity and how much I've been wanting to travel and take on new challenges and adventures. I took some inspiration from Phil Keoghan ("The Amazing Race") who I got to know last summer working with Accelerade. His latest show "No Opportunity Wasted" is based on a mantra he's lived by his whole life. I needed to be more like Phil.

I was sitting at home and Ashley came by to visit and said "oh, you have to do it." I'm not sure why, but at that point I was convinced it needed to be done. I knew it would be an expensive trip but once in a life time. So I got off the couch and started preparing...
